Hurricane Sandy lost Chapin a week of school. Having that week off was a nice break, but really showed me how important every class period is. You can plan out your schedule perfectly, and then suddenly it's completely thrown off. All of our Halloween lessons were pushed back; some were even cancelled.
Not only did the Halloween lessons have to be rescheduled, but all of our preparation for the Winter Concert and Grandparent's Day was thrown off. Every two years Chapin hosts "Grandparents, Special Friends Day" in the fall. This is a short school day during which Grandparents and other special friends come to school and see what Chapin is all about. The visitors experience what happens in the classroom and also get to enjoy and performance hosted by the music department. It is difficult enough to learn music in time for this concert while also keeping the Winter Concert in mind. However, even though the rehearsals were planned out very well leading up to this event, Sandy came and moved everything around.
The Hurrican knocked off a whole week of rehearsing for this important performance. My cooperating teacher and I worked very hard this week picking up the slack. Luckily, our hard work is paying off. Everything is coming together pretty quickly and successfully.
I am very excited to be a part of Grandparents Day and will post about it in my next Blog.
