It is strange to think that as someone who loves being in choir and attends a "choir college", I am most uncomfortable in front of a choir. I am still getting a feel for how the choral rehearsal works. When I have to plan a lesson I spend so much time asking myself questions. Should we solfege this? Should we do a rhythm identification? Should we learn by rote? I am still navigating the different approaches to choral pieces.
Aside from the 'how do I teach this?' aspect. I also feel strange standing in front of a large group of young singers. The auditorium in which we rehearse is so much bigger than our classroom, and even though I am standing right next to them, I feel like I am so far away. For me, the connection just feels lost. I am accustom to the classroom setting of sitting in circles, walking around the room, and having a naturally more interactive experience.
I need to figure out how to make myself that comfortable in front of a choir, or maybe, how to make the choir setting more like my classroom.
